  1. As you can see, it's totally safe to drop bumper plates on concrete. You can use your Fringe Sport bumper plates and drop them to your heart's content without damaging the plates or the concrete underneath them.Bumper plates are really only needed for the Olympic lifts where the bar is dropped from the hips, the rack position, and/or overhead. Normal strength training or powerlifting that consists of the squat, deadlift, various presses, and the row do not require bumper plates.
